North Korea's Kim Jong Un declares victory against Covid

Image
North Korean leader  Kim Jong Un  declared victory in the battle against the novel coronavirus, ordering a lifting of maximum anti-epidemic measures imposed in May, state media said on Thursday. North Korea  has not revealed how many confirmed infections of the virus it has found, but since July 29 it has reported no new suspected cases with what international aid organizations say are limited testing capabilities. While lifting the maximum anti-pandemic measures, Kim said that North Korea must maintain a "steel-strong anti-epidemic barrier and intensifying the anti-epidemic work until the end of the global health crisis," according to a report by state news agency KCNA. Analysts said that although the authoritarian North has   used   the pandemic to tighten social controls, its victory declaration could be a prelude to restoring trade hampered by border lockdowns and other restrictions. Observers have also said it may clear the way for the North to condu...

A city council in Alabama voted to dissolve its police department after a racist text message

Image
A city council in Alabama has voted to dissolve its three-member police department after the assistant chief sent a racist text message to other officers, according to the mayor, James Latimer. At an emergency meeting of the Vincent City Council on August 4, members moved to suspend with pay the Chief of Police James Srygley and Assistant Chief of Police John L. Gross. The third officer, Lee Cardin, resigned later that evening after the council voted to pursue fully dissolving the department. It left the city's nearly 2,000 residents with no active police officers. The next day, the  Shelby County Sheriff's Office  said it was "currently handling" all law enforcement emergency calls for Vincent, which is located about 35 miles east of Birmingham.  "The Shelby County Sheriff's Office was recently notified by the Vincent City Council and Mayor regarding the recent allegations of misconduct within the Vincent Police Department, and we equally condemn these act...

A few weeks ago, I was in the elevator with my friend [name]. He was just going up to see his boss, but I was already at my floor. "Hey," he said, "I'm going to see my boss. Want to come?" "Sure," I said. We got off on the same floor and walked over to his office together. He knocked on the door, and after a moment someone answered. "Come on in!" she said. We went inside and sat down at her desk, where she introduced herself as [name]. She told us about how she'd started working for [company name], and then she started talking about her job: "I'm working on this new software that will allow people to order food online by texting their phone number." She pointed out some of the features they'd been working on: "It'll have a GPS feature so that you can order from anywhere in town without having to go through all those steps again!" And then she asked us what we thought of it so far. I told her it sounded am...

MY STORY

Image
The first time they heard the sound of their own heartbeat, they were in a car. The car was moving, and the sound was coming from the dashboard, but when they looked out at the road and saw nothing but empty street, they still heard the sound. It was a muffled thud that seemed to be coming from somewhere deep inside them. ❤They didn't know what to make of it at first, but then they realized that it was like hearing their own pulse—it wasn't loud or clear or even particularly distinct from other sounds around them, but there was an undeniable edge to it that made them feel as though there was something happening inside their bodies that wasn't supposed to happen yet. It was kind of exciting! They had never felt like this before—like something inside them had been awakened by some new experience or knowledge or emotion. It felt… new.

STORY TIME

Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Cathy. She had always wanted to be a scientist. But her parents were very strict and didn't allow her to have anything that they considered "too modern" in the house. One day, while shopping at the mall with her mother, she saw an advertisement for an app that would let you learn everything about math and science just by playing games on your phone. She asked her mother if she could get it for her birthday. Her mother said no and told her not to ask again. But then she changed her mind and said yes—just this once! The next day, when they were driving home from the mall, they got into an accident with another car. The other driver was taken to the hospital and died before he could tell anyone what happened. So now everyone thinks that Genghis Khan died in an accident on his way home from the mall!

When we first started working together, I was so excited to learn about the new technology that is being introduced at my company. I had no idea how much it would change our lives and how much we'd need to adapt. It was hard to believe that all of a sudden, there were so many different ways to communicate with people on the other side of the world. We could send messages through text messaging or email, but we could also use Skype and Facetime for video chats! We've been using these tools for over six months now, and they feel like second nature—like breathing. In fact, sometimes when I'm in meetings with my colleagues, I can't remember what kind of device they're using to talk to me because they always seem like they're just talking into thin air!
4 Kentucky police officers face federal charges in Breonna Taylor killing The U.S. Justice Department has charged four Kentucky police officers involved in the deadly raid that killed Breonna Taylor with civil rights violations. The fatal shooting of Taylor, a Black 26-year-old medical worker, helped fuel the racial justice protests that rocked the United States in 2020. Taylor's mother, Tamika Palmer, told reporters she has waited 874 days — nearly two and a half years — for police to be held accountable. "Today's overdue, but it still hurts," she said. Lawyers for the family said in a statement that the news was "a huge step toward justice."

Technology is a tool, not a crutch. It's a way to make your life easier and more efficient, not a way to make yourself feel better about the things you don't have time for.So you can have the latest gadgets in your pocket, but don't let them be the reason why you don't have time for what really matters.

Image

It's no secret that technology is changing the way we live and work. In the past, many people were content to keep their jobs and live in the same place they have for decades. But now, thanks to technology, we have access to a world of opportunities that we never could have imagined before. We can communicate with anyone in the world at any time, anywhere, and it doesn't cost us anything! We can travel anywhere we want within hours, and then find out what's available in our destination country through an app on our phones or computers. We can learn everything there is to know about anything by searching the internet—all in real-time!Technology is so advanced that you might think it's impossible for someone like me to even enter this new world. But I've found a way: [company name], founded by my friend [friend name]. It provides access to all kinds of new technologies for people like you and me who want to make an impact on our lives and our communities.

Image

We live in a world where technology is ever-present. It's not just about our phones and computers—it's about the way we communicate with each other, the way we make music and movies, the way we learn. It's no wonder that technology has become so important to us! But it can also be tricky. It can be easy to get sucked into thinking that if we have it all figured out, if everything is perfect and there's nothing more to learn, then life is complete. But that's not true!

Image

If you're having trouble with technology, don't worry. It's not your fault.Technology is tricky, but you can learn to use it and understand it. You just have to be willing to practice, and believe in yourself when things get hard. You are going to make mistakes—and that's okay! We all do on occasion, even when we're the most experienced with something. Don't let the fear of failure stop you from trying something new, or reaching for something bigger than you were before.Don't be afraid of how much knowledge you need—technology changes constantly and there will always be new things out there for you to try!

Image

Technology is a gift from the gods. It's the only way we can communicate. It's the only way we can share information. It's the only way we can organize ourselves, and it's also the only way we can feel distant from each other. It's not too late to stop letting technology control your life. We're all still here, and you're still alive—and if you haven't already, now is a great time to start living in a new way!

Image

Technology can be a great thing, but it can also be a big distraction. It's easy to get sucked into your phone, and forget about what's going on around you. What if I told you that technology could make your life easier? What if I said that technology could help you stay motivated?I know it sounds crazy, but it's true.
